We believe...
We believe in the Holy Trinity and, along with all other historical branches of Christianity, hold belief in the Trinity to be absolutely necessary in order to be Christian.
Furthermore, we believe that salvation is by faith alone, and that the only authoritative source on matters of faith is Holy Scripture.
Anglicanism has a rich tradition of being a "middle way", or in Latin, via media, between Protestantism and Catholicism. Anglicans combine a generally Protestant belief system with a very Catholic style of worship. Many Anglican churches are built in a traditional Gothic style, and our services place a great focus on ritual and beauty.
We are also very diverse, both in background and in beliefs. A popular saying among Anglicans is: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love." While Anglicans are united in the essentials of our faith, we tolerate a wide variety of viewpoints on many, non-essential matters of faith. Thus, as Rev. Thomas MacKenzie explains in The Anglican Way: A Guidebook, Anglicans are simultaneously Catholic and evangelical, charismatic and orthodox, activist and contemplative, conservative and liberal.
These are some of the larger Anglican denominations. Although this is a small, geographically-narrow list, if you live in the UK or North America, one of these denominations is likely to have a church near you!
